Mycotoxin Binder

A highly absorbent hydrated sodium calcium aluminosilicate for use in animal feeds as a mycotoxin binder

Features & Benefits

hscas Technology

  • Contains 100% of hydrated sodium calcium aluminosilicate
  • Extremely effective in binding mycotoxins in animal feeds resulting in lowered mycotoxicosis symptoms
  • Very small particle size providing a high surface area for mycotoxin binding
  • Assists in reducing the detrimental effects of mycotoxins which results in better animal performance
  • Manufactured in the United States of America

GREAT FOR BINDING AFLATOXINS

A trial was conducted to show the ability of Alumi-Flow to bind aflatoxins across a wide range of pH levels.

Procedure

  1. Aflatoxin B1 was placed in each of 15 microcentrifuge tubes to which a 10% methanol solution was added to produce an aflatoxin B1 level of 5 mg per liter
  2. An Alumi-Flow slurry was prepared by thoroughly mixing Alumi-Flow with deionized water
  3. The Alumi-Flow slurry was then added to 12 of the microcentrifuge tubes to produce a solution containing 1.0% Alumi-Flow (w/v) in 10% methanol
  4. The remaining three (3) microcentrifuge tubes received an equivalent amount of deionized water without Alumi-Flow to serve as control tubes
  5. The tubes were then divided into three (3) groups of five (5) tubes each with each group having four (4) treatment tubes plus one (1) control tube
  6. The pH of each group of tubes was then adjusted to a value of 3.0, 7.0, and 10.0 respectively to evaluate the ability of Alumi-Flow to bind aflatoxins over a wide pH range

Results & Discussion

• Alumi-Flow has a very high ability to bind Aflatoxin B1 over a wide range of pH
• At both pH 3.0 and 7.0, the aflatoxin was completely bound by Alumi-Flow
• These pH values are representative of the range of pH normally found in the digestive tract of animals
• The addition of Alumi-Flow to feeds containing mycotoxins will assist the animal in overcoming many of the detrimental effects that result due to ingestion of feeds containing mycotoxins

reduces aflatoxin transfer

A trial was conducted to show the ability of Alumi-Flow to reduce the levels of aflatoxins present in the milk of dairy cattle.

Procedure

  1. A total of 16 lactating holstein cows were randomly assigned to one of four treatments in a Latin Square design.
    2. Alumi-Flow and two competitive HSCAS products were compared with an untreated control treatment in their ability to reduce the levels of aflatoxins in the milk.
    3. All of the clay products were fed at the rate of 0.23 kg per head per day.
    4. The animals received non-contaminated maize for six (6) days and then maize contaminated with aflatoxins for five (5) days.
    5. The diets with the aflatoxin contamination were formulated to contain 100 ppb aflatoxin.
    6. Total duration of the trial was 44 days.
    7. Morning and afternoon milk samples were collected on four (4) milkings at the end of each period.
    8. Composites of these samples were then made and analyzed by radioimmunoassay for the presence of aflatoxins.

Results & Discussion

• Alumi-Flow proved to be the most effective aflatoxin binder
• All three clays had good ability to bind the aflatoxins in the feed as evidenced by the dramatic reduction in the aflatoxin levels detected in the milk
• When compared with Competitive HSCAS (A) the reduction in transmission % was 18 % greater for the Alumi-Flow
• When compared with HSCAS (B) the reduction in transmission % was 31 % better with Alumi-Flow
